This is a set of BRAND NEW Crane Cams 99678-16 titanium valve spring retainers and locks in their original packaging. The inner packaging has never been removed and they are still sealed.This set was purchased by me personally from Crane Cams in April of 2006. These are from the original Crane Cams founded by Harvey Crane in 1953. They are not a set produced by S&S Motorcycle. These are out of the original Crane plant in Hallandale, Florida where quality came first and everything was done under one roof. Any other new ones you will find were produced by S&S. The story of Crane Cams is in the next couple of paragraphs below the specs.
The last set of these I could find on the internet were sold on eBay on August 23, 2021 for 6.96, and they were S&S produced, not Crane! I think my price is more than reasonable for this surviving set.
These were purchased by me in 2006 for a Chevy small block project that turned into a big block project (Bet that's never happen to anyone else, right?) Along with these retainers, I purchased valve springs, gold rockers, and a roller cam and mechanical roller lifters. Everything was used on later projects except for the lifters and retainers which went mysteriously missing in 2008. Last week I found the retainers and lifters in a box that that was marked “Halloween decorations.” I have no idea how they ended up in that box, but they've been indoors in a sealed box for at least 15 years. I may decide to sell the roller lifters later, but for the moment I see no use for the retainers, so here they are! The very last picture shows the label on the lifters with the production date on it to show when I bought them. The box of retainers is not dated. THE LIFTERS DO NOT COME WITH THE RETAINERS!

TAPER.  Absolutely the strongest titanium/lock system available!  Proven in competition by nationally known Pro/Stock, Top Fuel, Funny Car, Winston Cup, and short track race teams.  Crane Cams “Posi-Stop” titanium retainers feature the patented “stepped” design that reinforces the bottom of the retainer.  This both significantly increases the integral strength of the retainer, and eliminates the valve locks ability to pull through the bottom of the retainer.  “Posi-Stop” retainers are made for 11/32” valve stem diameters with 7° taper and come with matching Crane machined valve stem locks.  This is as good as it gets.

Founded by Harvey Crane in 1953, Crane Cams went on to become legendary in racing circles. Crane discovered quickly that farming out some of the processes like heat treating and other things not normally done by speed equipment manufacturers, led to inferior products. Starting out in an 3500 square foot area he rented in the back of his fathers machine shop with him as the only employee, to a company in Hallandale, Florida, with over 300 employees. With exception of packaging material and printing, everything was done “in house” to insure quality control. To the best of my knowledge, Crane cams was the only speed equipment manufacturer at the time to do everything in house. From design and engineering to manufacture, it was all done under one roof. Cams, valves, valve springs, valves, retainers, etc., all in the one plant. Even the heat treating was done in the facility.
In 2008, the recession took its toll on Crane Cams. The debt load and the cost of operating such an extensive facility led to bankruptcy for Crane Cams. The name and inventory was purchased in 2009 by S&S Motorcycle in Wisconsin, and things went from in house to farmed out.
In 2021, Crane Cams was sold again!
